# Certificates

> Generate and download certificates for completed enrolments.

Certificate generation and retrieval for completed topic and pathway enrolments.
The generation process has three steps:

    [Request a certificate](/api-reference/certificates/request-a-certificate) for a completed enrolment. The response includes a `job_id`.

  <Step title="Monitor the status of the certificate generation">
    [Poll certificate status](/api-reference/certificates/poll-certificate-status) with the `job_id` until `status` is `complete`. The response then includes the certificate `url`. If generation fails, `status` is `failed` with an `error`. Jobs expire 24 hours after they are requested.
