# Rate limits

> Request limits for the Tribal Habits API.

The Tribal Habits API has a default rate limit of 300 requests per minute for each organisation. All requests made with your organisation's API keys count towards the same limit. Your organisation may have a different limit by arrangement. We reserve the right to modify this rate limit at any time.

The limit is counted in fixed one-minute windows. Every response includes these headers:

| Header | Description |
| - | - |
| X-RateLimit-Limit | Number of requests allowed in the current window |
| X-RateLimit-Remaining | Number of requests left in the current window |
| X-RateLimit-Reset | Time the current window ends, as a Unix timestamp in seconds |

Requests above the limit return `429` with a `Retry-After` header giving the number of seconds until the window resets. Wait for that time before retrying.

When the rate limit is exceeded, the API returns `429` with JSON structured like this:

```json theme={null}
{
  "error": "Rate limit exceeded. Please slow down.",
  "retry_after_seconds": 23
}
```
